A practice in motion

I recognise myself as a mover, a dancer. I entered this MA with a clear intention: to re-discover how movement seems to be the way I think and to ask how I can, through what I do, manifest that my movement has a way of knowing.

I have danced my way through my career, trickling gradually forward, building up a dedicated practice that revealed itself over time. Since 2009 I have nurtured my project Skisser i Bevegelse - Sketches of Movement, which I will call SIB. It is a project I still find difficult to articulate to its full potential. Today, it can best be defined as a multifaceted project with a clear and evolving artistic expression. The way I experience it now: SIB is my practice.

Over the past year, filled with seminars, reading, and sustained inquiry, I have been, without exaggerating, quite overwhelmed. The more we learn, the more we realise how little we know. And this feeling affects not only my head, but my whole body. That is perhaps the most honest thing I can say about this first year of the MA: the overwhelm has been embodied.

This is not new territory for me. When I did my pedagogical studies in 2010–2011, I clearly noticed how little resonance there was between what we were learning about and how that learning was being proposed to us as mature students. The content spoke of embodied knowledge; the method ignored the body entirely. I decided early on to step into this MA differently, to enter it with my body as a whole, fully acknowledging that the way I have lived my life is through movement. The transformation into this new existence had to happen at a certain pace.

This practice-based inquiry narrows its focus to the moving body as lived experience, asking: how can my dance practice be understood, articulated, and theorised from the inside out? Through ongoing documentation; instant writing, drawing, sketching, inner dialogue, and video, I build a reflective archive that traces not only what the body does, but what it knows.

This research does not seek fixed answers. It follows the logic of the practice itself: emergent, relational, and always in motion
